Grading Scale

Individual assignments will receive letter grades. Final course grades will be assigned according to the following grading scale. For the weekly presentations, midterm, and final project, we will distribute individual grading rubrics with the prompts as needed. See below for a general description of grades.

A95-100Outstanding performance that is interesting, lucid, nuanced, and original: Work in this range goes above and beyond our expectations and the work of your peers.
A- 90-95High-quality work that meets all assignment criteria, is interesting, lucid, nuanced, and demonstrates some originality
B+87-89Good quality work that meets all assignment criteria; makes an articulate and nuanced argument and/or demonstrates a lucid understanding of relevant ideas
B83-86Average quality work that meets most assignment criteria; makes an articulate and nuanced argument and/or demonstrates a lucid understanding of relevant ideas
B-80-83Average quality work that meets most assignment criteria; makes an articulate argument and/or demonstrates an acceptable understanding of relevant ideas
C70-79Below average work that meets some assignment criteria but fails to engage with material in a substantive way
D
and below
69 >Work does not meet assignment criteria; fails to engage with material in any relevant way; shows a clear lack of substantive effort
