Academic Integrity
Please familiarize yourself with Penn’s Code of Academic Integrity, which applies to this course. Instances of academic dishonesty will be referred to Penn’s Center for Community Standards and Accountability. An essential element of academic integrity is fully and correctly attributing any materials taken from the work of others. We ask that you review the university’s plagiarism policy and actively encourage you to manage your bibliography and citations throughout the course.
Community, Inclusion, and Culture
We recognize that fostering an inclusive environment is a continuous process that requires balancing different and sometimes conflicting points of view. As members of a school of communication that studies diverse topics, we understand that such dialogues pave the path toward thoughtful understanding. The Annenberg School is committed to creating an open and inclusive environment and offers additional resources to support this aim.
Generative AI
The current ethics of Generative AI are problematic at best, it abuses copyrighted material, offers no citations and sources, and as this course will elucidate, has a serious environmental toll. With this in mind there might be an exciting and ethical case for working with Generative AI tools in novel, creative and critical ways to enhance your ideas. Whether you choose to use Generative AI or not, we would like you to provide a declaration stating if you have or have not used it and how and why you have used it across all of your assignments. We are not here to judge, but to encourage you to think critically, and engage with the course material with your own original thoughts based on your own research. If you do not provide a declaration and we have reason to suspect that you have used AI in your work, we will refer your case to The Center for Community Standards and Accountability.
